MIHM premiered Kai and Gerda’s bedtime stories

Last Saturday MRP presented a musical recital for families Kai and Gerda's bedtime stories performed by film and TV stars Alla Mikheyeva and Sergey Druzyak accompanied by Instrumental Capella.

This fascinating story is based on 4 fairy tales by Andersen: The Swineherd, The Princess and the Pea, The Tinder-Box, and The Steadfast Tin Soldier. As the story goes, the protagonists Kai and Gerda have trouble falling asleep. They want to get into Dreamland and make up stories of whatever's around. Getting engaged into the game, they turn into the protagonists of their stories.

The original text of Andersen's fairy tales in the performance is intertwined with oral improvisational narration, a tradition known in the European theatre as storytelling, when the actor speaks to the audience. That enables the spectators to be in the closest proximity to what's going on. By combining the acting fairy tale journey with the sound a distinct emotional atmosphere has been created: the works by Arensky, Grieg, Dvorak, Tchaikovsly and Mozart were mixed with contemporary electronic music. The new musical score was written by composer Pyotr Apollonov.

The performance featured Instrumental Capella orchestra and conductor Alexei K. Mironov. Director Olesya Nevmerzhitskaya broke the conventions, involving all the participants into a theatrical process of body plastics, pastel colors, well-loved fairy tales, and music.
