World Theatre Day

On 27 March World Theatre Day is being celebrated throughout the world. Although theatrical art has got a rich history, this holiday was initiated some 50 years ago, in 1961, by the 9th Congress of UNESCO International Theatre Institute.

Traditionally this holiday is not reserved just for stage directors or actors. Producers, lighting technicians, sound engineers, musicians, concert masters, artists, make-up people, props men, ushers, and cloakroom workers – this holiday is for everybody connected with the theatre professionally.

World Theatre Day is an occasion for millions of people to express their love and gratitude to professionals applying their talent to make performing arts live.

In these days Moscow Region Philharmonic offers to all the lovers of theatrical art and music diverse concert programs:

28 March, 7 pm. Anniversary concert of Maxim Dunayevsky
Maxim Dunayevsky is one of the most sought-after contemporary composers. He wrote music for popular films and plays, including musical "The Scarlet Sails" which won the prime theatre award "Golden Mask". His anniversary program features well-known artists and friends – Dmitry Kharatyan, Angelina Sergeyeva, and "Cocktail project" band.

29 March, 1 pm. Music tale "Sadko – the welcome guest"
A music&dance performance for children and adults based on ancient epic poems. The narrator takes his time to tell the story of the guslar player from Novgorod who ventured into the Underwater Kingdom. The story is accompanied by vivid dance pieces and original arrangements of folk songs performed by the orchestra. Interactivity is a distinct feature of the performance. Children will be able to dance and explore ancient Russian music.

29 March, 5 pm. Evening of Romance. P.I. Tchaikovsky
To mark 175th anniversary of Tchaikovsky, soloist of State academic Bolshoy Theatre Maxim Paster (tenor) and Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Ghindin (piano) will perform romances of the composer. This evening the audience will hear not just chamber vocal lyric but also extracts of works by Tchaikovsky for musical theatre – popular tenor arias.
