“Musical Woods” on stage of “Russkaya Pesnya” theatre

On 11 April Moscow Region Philharmonic presented musical and educational performance for families, fairy tale "Musical Woods, or the Tale of Ivanushka rescuing his bride". The concert was hosted by Moscow state musical folk theatre "Russkaya Pesnya" ("Russian Song").

The plot is based on Russian folk songs. The main character Ivanushka had to face a great deal of hardships, make friends, and solve a lot of riddles to rescue his bride Mashenka from the tower where evil spirit Koschei the deathless had locked her up. The assistance of young spectators enabled Ivanushka to set the girl free.

Children were involved into the performance, with the program aiming at giving them an introduction to Russian folk instruments. Zhaleyka, gusli, harmonica, spoons, domra, ratchet, reedpipe, balalaika, tambourine, horn, bayan – young spectators were sorting it all out during the concert. As soon as they said out loud the name of every instrument, Ivanushka rescued Mashenka.

Mashenka's part was played by actress of Moscow drama theatre "ApARTe" Anastasiya Zykova. The tale was accompanied by State academic orchestra of Russian folk instruments "Russkiye Uzory" ("Russian Patterns"). Artistic director – People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Zozulya. Conductor – Honored culture worker of Moscow Oleg Tarasov.

The next performance is scheduled for 26 April, 11 am at museum and exhibition centre "New Jerusalem"
