“Ode to Great Victory” in Naro-Fominsk

Moscow Region Philharmonic presented the first concert as part of "Ode to Great Victory", a one-of-a-kind musical and poetic project marking the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The performance took place on 24 April 2015 at "Zvezda" venue in Naro-Fominsk, a town of military glory. The program was supported by the Ministry of Culture of Moscow region.

An aura of a festivity to mark the Great Victory was created at the lobby of the venue before the concert. Renowned wartime tunes were being played and poems were being recited by artists.

The concert was made up of musical and poetic pieces celebrating the Great Victory. In terms of dramaturgy the program was based on a short story titled "Reunion" by writers Robert Vickers and Alexander Kanevsky. Extracts from the work were role-played by theatre actors Anastasiya Zykova, Irina Kondakova, Dmitry Ivanov, Rustam Akhmadeyev, Kirill Manakov.

The musical part was a synthesis of symphonic, sacramental, and folk music, as well as wartime and post-war songs. "A Little Blue Scarf", "Moscow Suburb Nights" and other popular songs were performed by Pavel Baransky and Tatyana Kurtukova.

The use of modern multimedia aids enabled the audience to see extracts from films about war and videos about artists in the war, the front-line teams that formed Moscow Region Philharmonic in 1943. A piece that struck the chord was the presentation of a battle map in the suburbs of Moscow to the accompaniment of Chamber Symphony by Shostakovich.

Part of the program covered the history of Naro-Fominsk, featuring stories of the events that occurred in the town during the war, interviews with veterans and their relatives.
