“Ode to Great Victory” in Volokalamsk

“Ode to Great Victory” in Volokalamsk

On 6 May 2015 Moscow Region Philharmonic presented a concert as part of the project "Ode to Great Victory" in Volokalamsk town. This large-scale music and poetic project celebrating the 70th anniversary of Great Victory was created with the support of Ministry of Culture of Moscow region.

The program was opened by the head of local authorities Evgeny Gavrilov addressing the veterans, expressing their gratitude to them.

The tribute to the town of military glory was paid by unique accounts of the town's history, details of its defense, and stories about war participants. The program was made up of symphony and choir works, wartime tunes, poems, and stories about the war. Popular wartime songs, parts of symphonies (Allegretto from Symphony no.7 by Beethoven, II part from Chamber Symphony by Shostakovich), and sacramental works ("Rejoice, O Virgin" by Rakhmaninoff, "Requiem" by Mozart) were performed.

The concert featured leading ensembles and soloists of Moscow Region Philharmonic.
