Ode to Great Victory

Ode to Great Victory

To mark 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War Moscow Region Philharmonic supported by the Ministry for Culture of Moscow region presented a unique musical and poetic project titled "Ode to Great Victory". The program was custom-made for each of the towns of military glory of Moscow region.

Concerts were given in April and May 2015:

24 April Naro-Fominsk "Zvezda"community centre
6 May Volokalamsk "Lama"sports centre
7 May Dmitrov "Extreme" park
8 May Mozhaisk Local culture and recreation centre

"Ode to Great Victory" combined dance, music, and literary pieces with modern multimedia aids. Music and poetry were backed up by related images. The pictures of wartime events interspersed with wartime songs, classical and symphony works – with choreographic pieces. The program featured "On the Hills of Manchuria", "Victory Day", as well as popular folk songs smoothly complemented by Allegretto from Beethoven's Symphony no. 7, Mozart's "Requiem", "Chamber Symphony" by Shostakovich, and many other works of classical repertory.

The project has a strong dramaturgical core, a novella by Robert Vickers and Alexander Kanevsky titled "Friends' Reunion", which relates a heartrending story of a frontline soldier.

Video clips shot specifically for each town provide a multimedia backup to the project. They include interviews and unique footages, stories of the towns' inhabitants, their defense during the war and the heavy battle for Moscow. Each town of military glory of Moscow region has its own history. For example, Germans were planning to conquer Volokalamsk very fast, saying: "We'll have breakfast in Volokalamsk and dinner in Moscow". Naro-Fominsk and Mozhaisk resisted one of the most violent attacks. Dmitrov survived the most devastating struggles at Peremilovskaya Vysota, where today there is a monument to "The heroes of the battle near Moscow".

Thousands of veterans from Moscow region attended this music and drama performance. Concerts in all the towns of military glory of Moscow region gathered people of different generations – children, their parents, and the veterans, the heroes of the Victory celebration. The "Ode" was played to pay honors to them.

"Ode to Great Victory" was also attended by officers and employees of town administration. "By this project we wanted to thank everybody who remembers and preserves the memory of those dreadful, hard years, to make sure they would never come again," commented deputy administrator of Naro-Fominsk district Trofimova Natalia Nikolayevna. The head of Volokalamsk municipal district Gavrilov Evgeny Vasilyevich and deputy administrator on social issues of Volokalamsk municipal district Krestinina Yelena Vasilyevna granted a letter of gratitude to Moscow Region Philharmonic. The first deputy administrator of Dmitrov municipal district of Moscow region Dolgova Olga Vladimirovna and the head of Mozhaisk municipal district Cherny Alexander Vladimirovich greeted the veterans and thanked the team of the philharmonic for organizing the one-of-a-kind project marking the 70th anniversary of Victory.
