MRP's Choir in Kazan

MRP's Choir in Kazan

On 27 March the oratory of metropolitan Hilarion "St. Matthew's Passion" will be performed for the first time at Grand Concert Hall named after Saidashev in Kazan city. The work will be played by the ensemble of Moscow Region Philharmonic - State MRP's Choir, and State symphony orchestra of Tatarstan Republic. Alexander Sladkovsky, Honored Artist of Russia and State Councillor of Culture, will be conducting.

There has been a multitude of "Passions" throughout the history of music. However, it's the first time when a work of this kind combines the canonic St. Matthew's Gospel with liturgical texts of the Orthodox Church. The oratory "St. Matthew's Passion" was written in 2006 by theologian, church historian, composer, metropolitan of Volokalamsk Hilarion (Alfeyev). It is distinct from similar works, as it presents a truly orthodox interpretation of the Savior's Passions: the music strikes rather with its inner tension than with theatricality.

The work of metropolitan Hilarion will be presented by one of the most eminent musical ensembles in Russia. Vibrancy and meaningfulness of sound, particular intensity, and high standards of performance are characteristic of State MRP's Choir and State symphony orchestra of Tatarstan.

Soloists:
Evgeniya Vasilchuk (soprano)
Valentina Gofer (mezzo-soprano)
Igor Morozov (tenor)
Rodion Vasenkin (bass)
