175th anniversary of Tchaikovsky

175th anniversary of Tchaikovsky

On 28 May 2015 Moscow Region Philharmonic showcased the program of State academic orchestra of soloists "Russkiye Uzory" at Moscow city teachers' house to mark the 175th anniversary of Tchaikovsky. The concert was part of the celebration observing the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture.

The one-of-a-kind ensemble performed music by Tchaikovsky of various genres – vocal miniatures, extracts from musical stage works, renditions of piano pieces.

Fervent "Dance of Minstrels" from spring fairy-tale "Snow Maiden", as well as Russian, Napoli, and Spanish dances from "Swan Lake" were presented in original arrangements for a folk instrumental cast.

Accompanied by "Russkiye Uzory" orchestra genuine, expressive, poignant romances were played: "Amid the Noise of the Ball", "We Were Sitting Together", "No, Only He Who Knew". Vocal works "Not a Word, oh My Friend", "Mad Nights" were performed to the accompaniment of the piano – a sort of low-key interlude of the program.

The music written for a folk orchestra was a surprise and a special gift to mark the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture: "Folk Rhyme and Variation" by Shishakov, "Godfather, Give Me a Visit" by Poponov, and "Russian Souvenir" by Lokshin. The virtuoso performance of these pieces provided the concert with a vivid closing.
